Wisdom tooth removal, or extraction, is a common dental procedure to remove one or more of the third molars—often called wisdom teeth—that typically emerge in the late teens or early twenties. These teeth are located at the back corners of the mouth, and they can cause problems if they become impacted (stuck under the gum), grow in misaligned, or create crowding. For many, removing wisdom teeth helps prevent pain, infection, and potential damage to nearby teeth.
